4 Natural Ways To Reduce Anxiety Before Your Visit

Updated: Nov 20, 2019

Does going to the dentist make you anxious? Here are some natural solutions that can help you feel calmer during your visit.

1. SOAK IT UP!

Take a bath the night before and add 2 cups of Epsom salt to your bath water.  Epsom salt is Magnesium Sulfate and is known as the "relaxing mineral."  By soaking in a bath with Epsom salt your body will naturally absorb the magnesium through your skin allowing you to sleep better and feel calmer. Adding a few drops of lavender essential oil to your bath makes it smell amazing and and help you relax. Soak for 20+ minutes.

2.  BREATHE

Breathing through your left nostril, used in Kundalini yoga, activates the Ida nerve ending in that nostril which relates to relaxation and calmness. By breathing through your left nostril for 5 minutes can lower your blood pressure which will calm your symptoms.

Sit in an easy Pose. Close your right nostril with your right thumb, your other fingers are stretched straight up as antennas. Close your eyes. Begin to breathe long and deep only through your left nostril. Continue for three to five minutes.

3.  DROP THE JOE

Rather than reaching for a cup of coffee which can amp you up, why not have a cup of chamomile tea or grass-fed gelatin broth, bone broth, or add a tablespoon of hydrolyzed collagen to a cold drink?  Chamomile has been used for centuries to help with calmness and relaxation. Gelatin and collagen are high in glycine which is an amino acid with calming properties.

Chamomile Precautions: Avoid if you have ragweed or related allergies, have hay fever, frequent hives or dermatitis or are pregnant.  Ask your doctor before using any herbals.

4. DIFFUSE

Diffusing Lavender essential oil is a great way to help calm your anxiety.  Use it at bedtime and/or before your dental visit.
